Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder, discussed job trends for 2018 with CNBC. According to Ferguson, with half of companies increasing hiring, this year will be the best since the recession.

2. Unusual Excuses for Taking a Sick Day
From being bitten by a duck to a hair emergency, Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb discussed the craziest excuses workers have given for calling in sick on The Today Show, based on CareerBuilder research.

3. Bridging the Skills Gap
Employers may want to look to the old apprenticeship model to shrink the skills gap, according to a Fast Company piece featuring CareerBuilder data.

4. Digital Personal Brand
In order to be competitive, job seekers these days need to start working on their personal brands early. Forbes published an article – featuring CareerBuilder research – on how to manage your personal brand online.

5. Big Companies, Smaller Salaries
It used to be that big companies tended to offer big wages, but according to a story published by CNN Money on a paper authored by researchers from Stanford, the University of California, Berkeley, and the Social Security Administration – and based in part on CareerBuilder research – has found this is no longer the case.

6. Workplaces are Less Romantic than Ever
Rosemary Haefner, CareerBuilder’s chief human resources officer, spoke with CBS Sunday Morning about CareerBuilder’s office romance study, which found that office romances are at a 10-year low.

7. Harassment Going Unreported
CNBC published a story based on CareerBuilder research showing that 72 percent of workers who said they were sexually harassed at work did not report it to HR.
