"Be kind to others."

We’re excited to have Roel Smulders in the spotlight today, and the opportunity learn more about him and how he contributes to the success of the company.  Roel is our Broadbean New Business Team Lead, located in Germany. He has been with CareerBuilder/Broadbean for 2.5 years.

Tell us about your journey at CareerBuilder.

I started as a Partnership Manager (shout out to Faisel, who convinced me to join Broadbean and who was my manager the first 1.5 years) and then I transitioned into the Team Lead New Business role a year ago (shout out to Yannick, who has been my manager since then).

What do you do specifically and what does a typical day involve?

I am a Team Lead New Business and responsible for both the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and the Benelux region (Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg). It’s hard to describe a typical day because no day is the same. But what it probably comes down to is: a lot of meetings. Basically, I have a hybrid role: I both manage the team and do (enterprise) deals myself. On top of that, I execute on our strategy for both regions, I account manage our key accounts, and I own the local ATS partnerships.

What motivates you to bring your best to work every day?

That is definitely a combination of people, product, momentum, and potential. I have great colleagues at Broadbean that I really enjoy working with. The products we sell really add value for our clients and we have great momentum in the DACH- and Benelux region, with a lot of potential for growth in the coming years.

Can you share the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Always stay true to yourself and be kind to others. It will pay off (and of course makes you feel good about yourself along the way).
